Purpose

Just Kidding! Co. is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all children participating in our improv and performing arts programs. This Child Safety Policy outlines the standards, expectations, and procedures designed to promote student well-being and protect children, families, and staff.

 


 

Scope

This policy applies to all instructors, assistants, volunteers, and any individuals interacting with children through Just Kidding! Co. programs, including classes, workshops, rehearsals, and performances.

 


 

Program Structure & Supervision

  • All instruction is conducted in group settings.

  • There is no one-on-one instruction behind closed doors.

  • Classes take place in shared spaces whenever possible.

  • At least one adult instructor is present during all class activities.

  • Children are supervised for the duration of scheduled class time only.

 


 

Professional Conduct & Boundaries

All staff are expected to:

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.

  • Treat all children with respect, fairness, and dignity.

  • Avoid physical contact except when incidental, appropriate, and related to group activities.

  • Never engage in private, secretive, or personal interactions with students.

  • Use positive, age-appropriate language and teaching methods.

 


 

Background Checks

  • All instructors and assistants working with children undergo background checks prior to teaching.

  • Individuals who do not meet screening standards are not permitted to work with students.

 


 

Bathroom & Break Procedures

  • Staff do not accompany children into bathrooms.

  • Children are encouraged to use restrooms independently when needed.

  • Any situation requiring additional support is handled with transparency and appropriate supervision.

 


 

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

  • Parents or guardians are responsible for timely drop-off and pick-up.

  • Children are released only to pre-approved adults.

  • Any changes to pick-up arrangements must be communicated in advance.

 


 

Communication Guidelines

  • Communication regarding scheduling, logistics, and program updates occurs directly with parents or guardians.

  • Staff do not engage in private electronic communication with students.

  • All communications are professional and program-related.

 


 

Incident Reporting & Response

  • Any injuries, safety concerns, or incidents are documented.

  • Parents or guardians are notified promptly of incidents involving their child.

  • Concerns are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner, consistent with safety and legal obligations.

 


 

Behavior Expectations

Students are expected to:

  • Follow safety rules and instructor guidance.

  • Treat peers and staff with respect.

  • Participate in a manner that supports a safe and positive learning environment.

Repeated unsafe or disruptive behavior may result in removal from the program.

 


 

Zero-Tolerance Policy

Just Kidding! Co. has zero tolerance for abuse, neglect, or inappropriate conduct of any kind. Any violations of this policy are taken seriously and addressed promptly.

 


 

Policy Review

This policy is reviewed periodically and updated as needed to reflect best practices and program needs.

 


 

Parent / Guardian Acknowledgment

By registering a child for participation in Just Kidding! Co programs, the parent or legal guardian acknowledges that they have received, reviewed, and understand this Child Safety Policy and agree to its terms as a condition of participation.
